A Year in Letters

is setting me free.

Hate Is Easy,

I have put up  all these walls keeping you out, You’re just like me, we are scared. We are two little kids watching the Exorcist; jumpy and terrified. We are standing still because it feels more safe than moving. I’m so done with feeling secure. I’m putting on my big-girl pants and moving on.

I love you and I have loved you all along. If I don’t move forward now I won’t be able to find what i’m looking for. I would love for you to join me in this forward march but that’s a choice you have got to make. I can’t hold your hand and pull you but I can hold your hand and walk beside you.

I don’t need you. No matter what my heart says, I do not need you. I want you though, but I can walk alone. I define myself and want so badly to ass you to my definition but first you have to write your own. As John Mayer says, “It’s friends, lovers, or nothing. There can only be one.” You are holding me in the in-between and I have to move on with my pride beside me where you could of been.

I am asking just once, do you want me to be your girl? Not one of the girls, the only one. Can you commit yourself? It’s all or nothing.

Love Takes Courage,

A friend or a Lover (or nothing)

Dear Ms. Z,

As an ongoing free-write for your creative writing assignment I thought it would be a cool idea to write letters. Letters to tell people things i’ve always wanted to or letters to people who don’t even exist. It is my hope that by writing down words I want or have wanted to say, I can hopefully one day have the nerve to actually say them.

Literature has changed my life. I remember in fifth grade I read “Hey God, It’s Me, Margaret,” a chessey book about a girl who finds peace by chatting with God. This novel more then any sermon, by any pastor, i’d heard prior to this book, change my relationship with God.

The novel which meant the most to me has been “Harry Potter.” To some people Harry Potter is a wizard who saves the day and J.K. Rowling is a self-made millionaire with a good idea. To me Harry Potter is the better version of me and J.K. Rowling is the woman who wrote the chapters that saved me in my darkest hours. He was there when I needed someone the most. It just goes to show literature never turns its back when you need it most.

Your Student,
